small business IT inventory checklist
You do not need an enterprise asset-management system to benefit from knowing what technology the business owns and what each machine does.
1. Record the basics
Computer name, make, model, serial/service tag, primary user and physical location.
2. Record business purpose
Reception, accounts, CAD, POS support, management, workshop or spare computer.
3. Record critical software
List applications that would block the user from working after replacement.
4. Record warranty and purchase information
Useful for repair decisions, insurance and replacement planning.
5. Record storage and backup status
Know whether the machine stores unique local data and where its backup should be.
